WordPress releases Thelonius (WordPress 3.0)

TAPACOM clients currently on the WordPress system should begin upgrading their websites with the latest version, called Thelonius. The latest incarnation of WordPress includes many new features that will increase the functionality of your web sites.

Those clients who are familiar with the upgrade process may perform the upgrade themselves. Download the files from the link at the bottom of this message and install via FTP (file transfer protocol). You will not be able to do the upgrade through the Dashboard. As usual, make sure you have backed up your files and test all functions after the upgrade.

WordPress 3.0 is the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors, is now available for download.

New features in this release include a new default theme called Twenty Ten. Developers have new APIs that allow easy implementation of custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies. The Twenty Ten theme uses all these new features.

Developers and network administrators will appreciate the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, creating the new multi-site functionality which makes it possible to run one blog or ten million from the same installation. You will love the new lighter interface, the contextual help on every screen, the 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements, bulk updates so you can upgrade 15 plugins at once with a single click

FTP server upgraded

The TAPACOM FTP server has been upgraded to the latest version of Rumpus.

New Features Added:

File Search
Allow users to search for files by name or content.

Guest Transfers
Send files to “guest” users, without having to create user accounts for one-time transfers. Guest uploads are supported, too.

Growl Notifications
Growl offers easy, lightning quick desktop notices of file uploads or downloads.

iPhone Interface
Mobile users can view multimedia content using a unique interface, optimized for the iPhone.

Rumpus is a full featured FTP (file transfer protocol) system which gives users the ability to connect to the TAPACOM server via the web browser (Web File Manager) and via WebDAV in addition to traditional FTP client applications

FTP access has been restored with an upgrade to the latest version of Rumpus. This change allows users the ability to connect to the server via the web browser (Web File Manager) and via WebDAV in addition to traditional FTP client applications

FTP access switched off temporarily

Security advisory for WordPress clients

A new worm has surfaced which attacks a vulnerability in older versions of WordPress. Clients who are using the WordPress system are advised to update to the latest version, 2.8.4, immediately. Matt Mullenweg discusses the problem here:

WordPress 2.8.3 update fixes RSS security issue

Clients are advised to update their WordPress installations to 2.8.3 as soon as possible. This latest release fixes a reported RSS security issue missed in the 2.8.2 release. More information about this here.
